Happy Friday and Happy First Day of October!
It feels like we just started the year and already we are heading into week 4 of lessons! Once again, I think we have adjusted to our hybrid style of Zoom and in person lessons and students have been doing an amazing job! I’ve been delighted and encouraged by all the enthusiasm and am looking forward to a great year! Now that we have settled in a bit, I want to share with you a few upcoming events and challenges on the schedule for this fall!
100 Practice Challenge
I like to kick off each October with our 100 Practice challenge. For those of you who are new, I’ve posted a little video into Tonara to explain it, you can print a sheet from Tonara or from this email. Keep it by the piano and put a checkmark in the box each time you practice! Getting to 100 will earn you a button for your music bag.
Thanksgiving Monday and Virtual Field Trip Master Classes
Thanksgiving is almost here and there will be no lesson on the Holiday Monday and no regularly scheduled lessons that week. Instead we will have one of our first all studio master classes which will be a virtual field trip to Poway On Stage’s Shadow Theatre presentation of Vivaldi’s 4 Seasons. For those of you who were here last year this will be a bit similar to our Virtual Nutcracker Field Trip. These master classes are for all students and, for those of you in the MYC classes, they are un-parented. Last year, every master class was on Zoom. I will have more details next week including the days and times you can choose from and whether they will be hybrid (your choice to attend in studio or from home) or whether they will be only on Zoom. Keep your eyes out for that email next week.
SAVE THE DATE: Christmas Recital will be December 12th!
It can seem funny to be talking about Christmas on October 1st, but we do actually begin much of our Christmas prepartion this month! Last year Christmas we were unable to hold an in-person recital so we put together a beautiful youtube recital. The silver lining was we had some very special composer cameos! This past June we opted for a Zoom recital instead and enjoyed the fun of seeing each other in real time.
This year is still a bit uncertain as far as restrictions may go, HOWEVER I do tentatively have a church auditorium booked for SUNDAY, December 12th and am looking at roughly a 2pm recital time. If it looks like we will be unable to hold it in person, we will hold it on Zoom instead on that same day in the afternoon. Once again you will have the option to play live in person or pre-record your piece to be presented.
NOVEMBER BREAK
One last thing for our fall calendar. Many schools have a break in November. They very from school district to district. Our studio will be closed from November 8-12 and there will be no lessons during that week. We will also be closed again during Christmas Break.
Well that’s all for the October newsletter. Stay tuned next week for the Master Class signup and details! Have a great weekend!
