“When the music starts, it goes straight to your soul…”
I just came across the most amazing story ever and I had to share it with you. I honestly cannot stop thinking about it. If you have 12 minutes and would love a little (or a whole LOT) of inspiration you absolutely MUST watch this Youtube video about Alice Herz-Sommer. It will change your life.
At 109 years old, she is the oldest living pianist AND the oldest living Holocaust survivor. As a young pianist growing up, I was often told (jokingly) to practice or perform as if my life depended upon it….hers actually did and being able to play the piano saved both her life and the life of her young son! Once a celebrated concert pianist, she and her son were deported to Theresienstadt where her piano playing ability and his ability to sing literally saved their lives.
So, if you are having a day…or a week…or even a month of piano practice frustration or you are just feeling uninspired by life in general, watch this video…we never know the far-reaching affects that music could have in our lives or the lives of our children or even the lives of those around us. It is an overwhelming and extremely humbling thought for this piano teacher!
